A soft breeze blew across the city, rustling the abandoned newspapers on the dusty bus benches. It was carried through the concrete streets by some unknown force, past the everyday bustle of the shops, through the blatant façade of middle-aged toupees, unsettling the bones of the old and forgotten elderly folks. Finally dying on the adjacent hill, it tickled the leaves of the lone tree that sat on the hill's zenith.
Surely someone will visit me today, it thought hopefully as it looked around its lonely perch on the lonely hill. It shuffled its leaves patiently, fondly remembering the times long-past when the children would climb and play on its branches or roll along the neighboring grass screaming as children should.
